Job Title: Part-time Personal Assistant to Vicar, St John’s Crawley

Reporting to: Operations Director

Job Purpose: Providing administration support to Vicar 2 ½ days a week

St John’s Crawley is a church in the heart of Crawley. We’re a part of the HTB network, with the big vision to evangelise to the nation, revitalise the church and transform society. For us here in Crawley our vision is to Love Jesus, Love Church, Love People and Love Crawley.

In September 2017 a small team from St Peter’s Brighton planted our 11:30 service into St John’s. Over the last 3 years we have grown into a community of over 400 worshippers. Crawley has been and will continue to be hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic and we are loving and serving the local community at this time, seeing God move in amazing ways.

This is a great opportunity for a gifted Personal Assistant with excellent interpersonal, administrative and organisational skills, which could be applied to project and event management. The office environment is busy and the Personal Assistant (PA) needs to be a reliable and confidential person who will take a proactive role in helping the Vicar to manage the multiple demands on his time and help co-ordinate events run at St John’s.

Areas of Responsibility

  1.  Screen, prioritise and execute correspondence, meetings and speaking requests.
  2. Proactively support the Vicar in all areas of his role.
  3. Manage the diary, prepare all paperwork and logistical arrangements (including travel) for all trips and meetings (both local and national).
  4. Co-ordinate and project manage church events and services.
  5. Act as a central point of contact for queries.
  6. Coordinate and take minutes at meetings, where required, liaise with others on a variety of events including national conferences.
  7. Keep the Vicar up to date with status of given tasks.

Terms & Conditions

Normal working hours: Part-time, 17 ½ hours per week Monday-Friday (office based between normal office hours). Occasional weekends or evenings as required. Requirement to work at key church events as required including Focus, our church family week away in July, and the Leadership Conference. It is expected that all staff members will become active members of St John’s Crawley including Sunday services.

Starting Salary: £19,741 pro rata

Annual leave: 25 Days per annum pro rata

All reasonable expenses will be reimbursed upon approval by line manager. Appointment will be subject to an enhanced DBS check. There is an occupational requirement for the role holder to be a Christian in accordance with the Equality Act 2010, Schedule 9, Part 1 S.3.

Appointment will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a probationary period, initially of 3 months. Notice period of 1 week during probation rising to 4 weeks after the probationary period.
